"Where did all of the storage space on my hard drive go??" You may find it useful to understand how file sizes are calculated.
If you scan an 8" x 10" print at 600ppi, you end up with:
8" x 600ppi = 4,800 pixels
10" x 600ppi = 6,000 pixels
4,800 pixels x 6,000 pixels = 28,800,000 bytes
28,800,000 bytes x 3 colors = 86,400,000 bytes
As you can see, it would not take long to fill-up your hard drive with a few scans of this size!
